This is not a correct statement. The most competent expert to speak on the situation has specifically said that the degree of kerning (you understand that kerning *IS* a matter of degree?) is consistent with Word but NOT with office equipment of the day. It was he who stated that a phototypesetter would have been required to reproduce the DEGREE of kerning in the "th" pair.
