I hear ya. I build systems occasionally for friends and family. It keeps my hands up to date on new hardware. What I do is after I build the system I partition the hard drive, move the My documents to D drive, move the favorite to the My Documents file. Store outlook backup to a file in My Documents. Then I load all the free software that I think they will use after installing the OS. Then I make an image to a CD and send the computer on it's way. In a couple of months after I most certainly get that call HELP, I just have to look what they've installed and any personnal information not in the right place is backed up I image everything back to the original status. Saves me hours of work sitting at a computer.

An XP re-install would have been easier.

Agree! Though my reformatting of the entire drive didn't take that long and REALLY cleaned things up <gg>. Key is to make sure to keep all the software and keys to re-install and second to have some way to occasionally back up needed files (I used an external hard drive via fire wire and it was really fast). Stephen's idea to CD would work too.

Ps. Probably my favorite feature of XP is the ease of use for different user profiles including password protection. Now if a teenage relative comes over I don't have to be in mortal fear the boy is just savvy enough to track every site or investigate every file I may have downloaded. I'd hate for him to run across , say, those pdfs on constitutional law I like to read about.

Good deal on a Netgear WGR614 802.11g Wireless Router with MA521 Wireless PC Card.

Lowest price is $29.44 delivered (Amazon) after rebate. It gets mixed buyer reviews on Amazon...some love it some hate it.
