"If people rebuild, they are stupid. "

It may take a while, but they will. Until pretty recently, all up and down the Texas Gulf coast you could wade out into the surf and find pieces of foundation and other stuff poking up out of the sand. In places you could find the remains of a black top road, in the dunes. It was the remains of houses and the beach road that was wiped out in Carla, which also had shifted the beach line. Most of that is gone, new and much more expensive houses have been built there and the reminders of an earlier time has been removed.

Until the next one...

It's a little tougher in Texas. Everything from the grass line to the water line is state property. If something happens so that the grass line moves and your house is now on sand, you wind up in a gray area. It's still your house, but if it is damaged, you can't fix it. You also can't sell it. If you abandon it, the state owns it. This discourages people from putting their houses in the most blindingly stupid place,i.e. on the beach. But there sure are a lot of people who get upset every time the grass line moves. Now true, some times the grass line moves back and then things revert back to the way they were. But this is pretty rare. Between slightly rising sea levels and sand starvation because of dams on the rivers, the line usually moves only one way...

RE:"Did you see the devastation on the summer homes along the gulf? If people rebuild, they are stupid."

Not only will they, taxpayers will help them.

Seems insane doesn't it?
