Bush wants permanent war and maybe he didn't gaffe when he claimed he cannot (or will not?) win the war on trror. The war on terror keeps Bush and the rightwing in power, or so they believe. What else can they run on? Nothing. They lose on every single other issue. Also, their closest croporate cronies make billions from wars in the middle east, especially as they manipulate energy prices higher and higher.
