The choice has never been more clear.

Exactly. Its unfortunate that Rove like campaign tactics are mucking up that clarity.

Even in local elections, the long arm of the GOP is having its effect. WA state's AG is up for re election this year. From all that I've heard, she's been doing a great job. Suddenly, smear commercials began to appear on the tube all but accusing her of taking bribes and other questionable activities. I was greatly surprised.

As events unfolded, the commercials were determined to be mostly bald faced lies and were ordered off the air. There was an investigation. Turns out the commercials were done by a GOP consultant for a group he refused to name. Finally, we learn its the US National Chamber of Commerce who represents a group of 'concerned citizens'...........we have yet to find out who those 'concerned citizens' are but you can bet they are GOPers. They were funding 24 similar local races throughout the country. Remember, state Attorney Generals have nearly as much impact on state affairs as governors.

The surprise is not that they are conducting smear campaigns......we seen evidence of those campaigns on the national level..........but rather that they are this well organized. Here in WA state they were exposed and the AG in question won her primary election. But who knows what happened/is happening in the other 24 races.

And the GOP consultant who orchestrated the local commercials.............you can not believe how smug and arrogant he was when interviewed on tv. These are not decent, law abiding citizens but rather white collar thugs reminiscent of the Mafia.
