Only Kerry can get us out of Iraq in one piece. He will do by by bringing together the international community. They will all want to help the new administration because Bush's neocons are frankly very scary dishonest dudes and 99% of the world just doesn't like them. Kerry will then offer big carrots and sticks and maybe even divide Iraq up with peacekeeping forces like in Kosovo. At least that will keep Iraq from exploding as it is already doing now.

What realistically are our choices? 1) Take the fight to home turf of the Islamic fundamentalists who declared war on USA, while supporting those Iraqi factions willing to eventually shoulder the fight themselves or 2) withdraw behind our borders, hope that domestic security will detect attempted 9/11 type attacks and wait.
