BDS-sufferer Bill Burkett forged the memos and faxed them to CBS from a Kinko's in Abilene. We even know the exact time and date they were faxed. Burkett boasted of "recreating" i.e. forging, Bush ANG records on a Democratic online forum. He also said he talked to Max Cleland by phone about the documents and at Cleland's request provided them to the Kerry campaign as well. The Kerry campaign's "Fortunate Son" was released immediately after CBS aired their story based on the forged documents - a clear sign of coordination between the Kerry campaign and CBS, by the way.

CBS provided a copy of the forged documents to the White House, no doubt hoping for a statement condemning them. White House officials no doubt subjected them to a critical
examination and quickly discovered they were forgeries, piss poor forgeries. Instead of providing a statement condemning the documents, they released them with no comment to the press, knowing that once everyone had them others would quickly discover the forgeries and CBS would look foolish for basing a major story on them.

The only thing Karl Rove may have done is sit back and let CBS step into the trap they'd created for themselves.

With Rove, anything is possible. Except winning the war in Iraq, of course. That is now beyond all human endeavor, Machiavellian beings or otherwise.
