However, Kerry probably didn't use connections to get into the Navy. Or assigned to a swift boat. This is one of the problems with the argument against Bush. He completed substantially all the requirements of his Guard service. It isn't shocking that after several years of doing precisely has he was required that he petered out in the last year.Frankly, Kerry petered out after four months of combat duty, while many others I know of did their entire tours. If nothing else is clear about Kerry's service, it is crystal clear that he was overly aggressive in pursuit of his Purple Hearts for minor scuffs and scratches that others wouldn't have even considered a PH for. In one instance the only required medical attention was antibiotic ointment. Now, I'm not holding that against Kerry; but it is at least as egregious as Bush fizzling on his last few months of Guard service. Both of these guys received Honorable Discharges, and both should be thought of as having served. It is not right to be going back 30 years later and attacking either's service record. Unfortunately for Kerry, he chose to try and make a campaign issue of it (apparently because he doesn't want to run on his true record). I believe what we've seen is the closest thing to political suicide as you can get get (well, except for the Dean Yell). Had he not done so, the swifties might never have shown up.Nor did he use family contacts to to bail out his failing businesses. There certainly are no credible allegations of Bush doing anything inappropriate in business, and his management of the Rangers clearly resulted in huge value added to the franchise, for which the other parters are no doubt grateful. He probably didn't have to rely on his father being vice president when he sold his stock without filing with the SEC. This is crap and you know it. The filing that was delinquent was a ministerial filing for which there could not have been a proper allegation of wrongdoing. I think you know that, though. The notification that matters was timely filed.Nor did he rely on family connections to be able to buy a significant ownership in a major sports franchise for $100k. Bush made an initial investment of $600,000. When he did, the Rangers were at an all-time low attendence -- we routinely went to games without tickets in hand and got great seats on the baselines. Only when Nolan was pitching were there crowds, and even then, the outfield was often totally empty. Over a period of a few years, Bush managed to turn it into a tremendously successful franchise which was ultimately sold for something like $250M. As I said, his partners aren't bitching. Along the way, he managed to get a new stadium built that is impressive and has reinvigorated a dying part of Arlington, IMO. The stadium plans reflected great vision and the stadium has, I think, become a major point of pride for Arlington. What are you complaining about. The guy is a great administrator, and everyone who has ever worked with him has said the same thing -- including Democrat Bob Bullock, who ran one of the tightest government agencies I've seen in my lifetime. Who DOESN'T believe this? Liberals who want to elect Kerry. You get my drift.
