Kerry's New Quagmire
Reader Fernando Colina makes an interesting point about John Kerry's buck-passing attitude toward Iraq:

CAMPAIGN 2004

John Kerry's Hail Mary
The Clinton band stages a reunion--but their new lead singer is tone-deaf.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.--On a typical weekday afternoon here, you can find the downtown crowd in line for the meatloaf with creole sauce or the fried catfish and hush puppies at Your Mama's Good Food, just up the block from the original Clinton-in-'92-era War Room. And behind the register at Your Mama's, you can find a kind of historical marker of those fashionable days when Arkansas Chic was all the rage. It's a framed front page of the Washington Post's Style section dominated by a photo of James Carville in all his okra-eatin', Ragin' Cajun glory.

The headline is obscured by a Clinton-Gore bumper sticker, but it might as well say "James Carville Ate Here." And he did. So did George Stephanopoulos and probably Paul Begala and Stanley Greenberg, too. Anybody who was anybody in that first Clinton campaign. And if you were a political operative like Carville or Begala, you weren't just anybody. In these parts, you were a celebrity.
