Mopping up? Good grief -- we are not mopping up. This is the sort of weak analysis and denial of the gravity of the situation that gets into such deep trouble. The invasion of Iraq was botched. The steps taken to secure Iraq were botched. The political process we put in place, both with other countries and within Iraq, has been botched. And the ongoing military occupation is being botched -- Iraq is a security, economic, military and social mess that now presents us with a sizable national security threat in place of the relatively minor one that was there before the invasion.
