U.S. draft dodgers to be honored in Nelson, B.C.
msnbc.msn.com

KHQ-TVUSA - Artists and activists in Nelson, British Columbia, have announced plans for a monument and festival to honor U.S. draft dodgers who fled to Canada.

(AP) - The celebration, dubbed ``Our Way Home,'' is set for July 8th and 9th, 2006. Festival director Isaac Romano says the purpose is to recognize the ``legacy of Vietnam War resisters and the Canadians who helped them resettle in this country.''

Dennis Klein, a sculptor and teacher at Kootenay School of the Arts, and artist Naomi Lewis have been chosen to make a bronze memorial depicting Canadians embracing the hands of American resisters. Mayor Dave Elliott says Nelson is just the place for such a monument. The town of about ten thousand has a lively arts scene and lies at the west end of Kootenay Lake about 410 miles east of Vancouver and 150 miles north of Spokane.

No, Annie, I have got no part in it at all!

You see, I wasn't with those kind souls of Nelson, British Columbia, that helped the so-called draft-dodgers. I prefer to call the d-d's "conscientious war-objectors" or cwo's instead.

I was most of the time in neighbouring Alberta and at times in Ontario helping sincere cwo's. I was told the cwo's that went to the Nelson and Paradise Valley areas of British Columbia were mostly hippie types who were into Eastern religions or New Age stuff. I don't like that sort of stuff. Also, I was told that quite a number of the chicks in Nelson are lesbians. So, no fun going there, was/is there?
