Statement from Kerry-Edwards Economic Advisor Gene Sperling
___________________________

For Immediate Release

September 21, 2004

Washington, DC - Kerry-Edwards campaign economic advisor Gene Sperling released the following statement today Federal Reserve:

"John Kerry respects the independence of the Federal Reserve and does not comment on their decisions concerning interest rates."

"It is not the Federal Reserve’s decision today, but the wrong choices of President Bush over four years that has most squeezed the pocketbooks of middle class families by allowing health care, energy and tuition costs to spiral in the face of declining family incomes. For four years America has been lacking the sound fiscal, economic and foreign policy that must go hand in hand with sound monetary policy to create the climate for long-term investment and job creation that has been so woefully lacking these last four years. John Kerry offers a new direction: a commitment to fiscal discipline with a plan to reward job creation in the United States, and tackle our health care cost crisis, move us toward energy independence and invest in our people and technology to restore America’s competitive edge."
