Anyway, what do you think about what Scumbria said, that Israel is the front-line defense against Muslim extremism, rather than the reason for it?

It's a dated or right wing notion. It would be interesting to have someone (you, since we don't seem to have the benefit of Scumbria's explanation) why he or you think this is so and in what manner would things evolve that makes Israel a front line.

- Winning the hearts and minds of the Arabs is a noble goal, but futile if we don't address the real problems that breed terrorism: poverty, dictatorships, and the Mafia-like rule of the fundamentalists. No one is going to be impressed with talk on our part, or "good-faith" withdrawals of our military or our aid to Israel, as long as they continue to live in squalor.
