CNN had a poll asking readers if you would not vote for a presidential candidate if the candidate was gay. Approximately 40% of the voters said they would not vote for that candidate.

Puzzling result, because I thought such extreme bias against gays was long ago gone from the majority of our society.

Come on that's hardly puzzling! The US hasn't even yet had a female president or a non-white president, and discrimination against those two groups is much, much less than against gays. I think you are extrapolating Bay Area views to the rest of the USA.

It's amazing how backwards and intolerant some portions of our society still remains. Very sad.

Not for the 40% of the people that don't want a gay president. They are probably pretty happy about it.

It's also ironic how the laws make it illegal for corporations to discriminate against hiring a gay person, meanwhile it's perfectly okay to discriminate when hiring the President of USA.

Not voting for someone for President isn't the same as discriminating against him.

I'd say the main conclusion I get from your post is how out of touch you are with the general population's views.

Not surprising to me.........we have been and continue to be one of the most conservative of the western nations.
