I don't think anybody consciously decided to pick two non-intellectuals to run for President in 2004. Kerry certainly is no intellectual giant, he just has a tonier accent than Bush, which Easterners think must mean he is smarter, because they believe that Southerners are dumb.

Bush uses Texasisms like "folks" and "nucular" and apparently this makes Eastern intellectuals gag. But I've never heard anybody praising Kerry for his intellect. Ever.

The smartest guy in the race is Nader. BA magna cum laude from Princeton, Harvard Law Review, JD with honors. Author of many books, most of them still in print. Very brainy guy.
