MP,

I did not see your post before I responded to Jrhana. You are right on the money here. And your contrast to Chicago is so accurate. I was not around in the 40's, but old timers tell me that Chicago and Detroit were sister cities, and both had wide appeal.

I just can't seem to believe that.

The Ren Cen is a nightmare. I think its a very depressing place, but I have not seen the new improvements that GM made, and I hear they are nice.

I can remember back in the 80's driving a car down Grand River 3/4 the way downtown and looking down some of the side streets and actually seeing weeds growing from the cracks in the streets and sidewalks and those weeds were 4-5 feet talk. Everything seemed to abandon. Maybe Detroit needs a direct hit by a Cat 5 hurricane to just gut the entire city with the hopes of govt. money for massive rebuilding. BTW what did the both major Sports teams build news sports stadiums back downtown? What was wrong with the Silver Dome? I think I heard that the Pistons were also on the move.
