Thornburgh is a perfect choice for CBS... he's a Republican who, after serving in the Bush 41 Administration had a falling out with some of the Bush 41 people. CBS may think that will lead him to be a bit anti-Bush 43, but they can still say he is a leading Republican. Thornburgh also made some legal training videos on ethics and complying with the law some years back that are still widely used in corporate circles, so he has some name recog as a law-abiding and ethical public figure.

I actually think that the report will be fairly damning of CBS and of Rather. The ratings for Rather's slant have dwindled to almost nothing over the years, and CBS' beancounters may be looking for an excuse to replace him post-election. Brokaw, who has a far bigger audience than Rather, is retiring after the election, so his audience will be in play, and Rather is not the right guy to convert them into CBS viewers.

Yeah. Michael Moore would have been perfect. Could have been a good way for them to transition Rather out and him into the CBS anchor spot.<g>
