So how does John Kerry react to his address? The would be U.N president attacks Allawi as a dissembler for putting "the best face forward" on the future of Iraq. This strikes Kerry as unusual since it has been his practice to always put the worst face forward on his country from 1971 onward. Just how much damage can Kerry do to the war effort in the 40 days of self-destruction he has left? John Edwards will help make it a record certainly, using the Q word today: "'It is the height of absurdity for Dick Cheney, a chief architect of the Iraq quagmire, to talk about the leadership needed to fix the mess in Iraq that he created,'' said Edwards, reviving a word - quagmire - often used to describe the Vietnam War." So John Kerry will end his political career as he began it, attacking America's role in a just war, undermining the morale of the troops who are fighting it, and expressing contempt for the leadership of a nation struggling to be free of oppressors. It is the only mark of consistency he's displayed, but not one that many voters will admire. UPDATE: Bush-Cheney '04 Chairman Mark Racicot's statement on the churlishness of John Kerry's attack on Prime Minister Allawi. "Today, John Kerry showed he lacks the judgment and credibility to lead the United States of America to victory in the War on Terror. "His attacks on the veracity of the Iraqi Prime Minister's historic address to Congress reveal a stunning propensity to take political cheap shots for his own benefit by denigrating our allies in this important struggle against a global terror network. President Bush is proud to stand with Prime Minister Allawi while John Kerry attacks progress and resolve and advocates a policy of retreat and defeat in the face of terror. "John Kerry said today, 'And when you people judge me and the American people judge me on this, I want you to judge me on the full record.' We're confident the American people will."
