In terms of pure national interest in that region of both nations, US and Iran should draw closer. Biggest threat to iran is bin laden ruled arabia et al as it is to us. Shia have 60% of iraqi pop with kurds at 20% and sunnis at 18%. Neither iran or the US can let the triangle civil war expand into shia areas. There is good reason to get along better than we now do.
Turks and Kurds need to bury the hatchet and US and israeli help may be needed. Although sunni, kurds are also threatened by sunni arabs of the baath persuasion and of course al quaeda if they continue to adopt a western personna like turkey. Turks and Kurds and US and iran need to accomodate with each other. Syria needs some cover against iraqi spillage and al quaeda. Saudi Arabia needs a miracle. Mike
