re: I agree we need to get out of Iraq, but not before the job is done. Kerry's policy is to increase the size of the military by 40K personnel to go after terrorists wherever they are. Not a bad plan.

I'm going to vote for Kerry... but I don't agree with the "plan". The reason there are "terrorists" in Iraq, mostly home grown but probably a few imported, is that our troops are there. Cause --- Effect. Will bringing our troop level to 170K cause the "terrorists" to leave? Will it give us the ability to kill them all? Or will it create more home grown "terrorists"?

The Iraq insurgency is, at the least, an understandable reaction to our war on, and occupation of, Iraq. If you look at it from their perspective. The same would happen here if we were occupied by a country with a vastly different value system. Hell, I would be an insurgent in that case.

No, the invasion was a mistake from the start. The longer we stay, the more we compound the mistake. Whatever government we set up will not be ligitimate, and will eventually be overthrown by the locals... why not get out of their way now, before we become even more discredited in the "hearts and minds".
