Ray, Humanitarianism, terrorism, communsism, all have been used to justify covert and overt U.S. military actions in the past 50 years. I think you hit the nail right on the head. Kosovo, like most U.S. military actions had a hidden agenda, like building a base, to further our empire. Nothing new about that. Look at what we did to Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean, we kicked the natives off their beautiful homeland and set up a base that was used to attack Iraq throughout the 1990s. All done suppossedly to fight communism.

<<< Re: Did Clinton really have to take us to war over strategicly irrelevant countries like Bosnia or Kosovo? >>>

This is a NATO lead affair. We just happen to be the U.N. and NATO enforcers. I for one do not like farming out our military for other organizations use. America needs to say goodbye to both these organizations. The purpose was for humanitarian intervention as well as being worried that it could spark a regional war.
Milosevic is charged with ethnic cleansing. Supposedly about three hundred thousand people were killed and 2 million rendered homeless in Bosnia-Herzegovina. In Kosovo, Milosevic suspended democratic institutions, closed hospitals and schools, and banned the independent media. He could pretty much do anything else he wanted.
Also how about all the mass graves that were spotted from our sattelites. How about 100,000 men not accounted for with about 700,000 people fleeing to Albania, Macedonia, and Montenegro. What a mess. I think he is going to be on trial shortly so everyone will find out what he did. This should put a stop to the speculation of why NATO became involved.
The question that needs asked is should NATO even be involved in a nations internal affairs no matter what the circumstances. You have the serbs with 10% of the population some how repressing the 90% Albania muslums. Of course we hear about America never coming to the aid of muslums which this case proves otherwise.
