I usually read the entire thread to keep up. I probably spoke out against the "ignore" feature when it was first entraduced (yes spell check is important) introduced. If you are not going to have an ignore list then I don't think thread founders should be able to ban a poster from a thread. You should not have to start a thread to be able to not see someone else.
