Scratch that. It's fixed.

I created badurl.aspx that redirects to the default.aspx, and pointed the IIS error to that. The effect is that the URL variables (like /stalktalk/blahblah.gsp) are not being passed along and hosing the home page.

WHY this works and the other way didn't is beyond me.
