Bob, the old Si Search engine allowed you to do a search within a thread or board, is that no longer feasible?

Very feasible. Just not implemented yet.

Because SI's message-base is so much larger than iHub's, what's not feasible is having the whole universe of posts searchable. Won't be feasible for iHub much longer, either. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me if searches there have slowed down quite a bit.

We're going to spend some time adjusting the size of the portion of the message table we'll allow lifers/gramps to search and see where that puts us in terms of performance. It's looking like we might limit it to the past million posts, which goes back pretty far.

Then we'll add other search tables to go back in time, likely in 1-year increments, and make that available to Premium-PLUS and recurring subscribers. So, such a member will be able to search for posts written in 1999, for example.

Getting more to your question, within the limitation that we're only going to make the most recent million or whatever posts searchable to most members, search within a thread and within a profile will be implemented in fairly short order.

And the site will eventually gain an advanced search ala iHub.
