Yes, I have a negative attitude about it, but it's for good reason.

The vitriolic "You guys suck because I don't have my portfolios now" posts have been almost universally coming from free members. Granted, I know that's not the same thing as saying "All free members are being vitriolic about losing portfolios", but it's hard not to get a negative attitude when every time someone busts your chops about something and you check their profile, they're a free member. Especially when we went to great pains to let everyone know well in advance.

Regarding your point about advertisers, I'm a bit puzzled and surprised at my observations of our performance at our main ad agency.

Yesterday was the best day of the month at our main agency, both in terms of revenue and total impressions delivered. Even though it was a weekend day, which typically means dramatically reduced traffic.

Yesterday's ad traffic at that agency was nearly 4 times the normal Saturday volume.

Now I have to ask you something. Since you noticed my negative attitude about how a number of free members are reacting to the loss of portfolios, did you also perchance happen to notice the times that both Dave and I have said that we couldn't have kept portfolios even if we wanted to, but that we've saved the data because we know it's important to a lot of people and will re-implement portfolios when/if we find a cost-effective way to do so?

The cost of the data feed to update the prices is WAY beyond the ad revenue those pages ever generated.
