Personally, I don't see why free members should get any privileges at all. For those of us who paid, it's kind of a "hmmm, how come I paid if I can get this stuff for free" thing. Let 'em read for free, but make 'em pay to post is my thinking.

Free members can only post 3 times per day. And won't be able to use a lot of features you have available. They can only read posts one at a time, for example, and can't use Message Search.

There are a multitude of reasons for opening the site up for free members to post. The main ones are:

1. The "new blood" thing. Dave knows the exact percentage, but a horribly high percentage of discussion on this site has zilch to do with the market. By allowing free members to post (they'll eventually be limited to only investment boards and support boards, once I get that limitation implemented), market discussion will get a boost that we hope will gain momentum. We'll be monitoring it closely.

2. By giving free members a taste of what the site has to offer, we hope to convert them to subscribers. Subscribers who post a lot.

The model has proven itself viable on iHub, making it successful not only as a message board but as a business. The same model will be in use here, but in a more limited fashion to preserve as much of the "gated, upper-class community" dynamic as we can.

I'm not sure about the font problems you're reporting, though.

What browser and operating system are you using?

They look fine in IE/XP/2K to me.
