WHO has acknowledged that human to human transmission of H5N1 in Thailand was "probable", which is as close as they will come without someone infected sneezing in their face

The H5N1 virus in Asia has already recombined. The case in Thailand was the one with the best documentation, because the now confirmed mother was in Bangkok when her now deceased daughter was infected.

However, a very similar scenario happened in Vietnam in late July / early Ausust when an older sister developed a confirmed fatal H5N1 infection after caring for her 19 year old brother, who also died with avian flu symptoms. The older sister did not devlop sym, ptoms until her brother had died.
