Yes, I saw that. Dire predictions and a hard struggle ahead. Nobody ever said something worth achieving is ever easy. I just hope this one is winnable.

"But I think that that will be overcome in due process because what the Muslim world will see . . . is that in Afghanistan, 10 million people who have registered to vote will vote on the ninth of October and bring in place a freely elected president. This is not the type of ass kissing I want to see out of a US official. Why doesn't Powell call the Muslim world on the carpet and comment on their own failure to get rid of the horrible Taliban themselves, and say that the existence of the Taliban is a sign of failure of Muslim societies to live appropriately in the modern world. Any Muslim country that objects to the current situation in Afghanistan should be forced to ask itself why it didn't do anything to prevent the turn of events that resulted in the current situation in Afghanistan.
