WASHINGTON (AFX) - Sales of new homes in the United States jumped 9.4 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.184 million, the largest percentage gain in nearly four years, the Commerce Department estimated Monday. The number of new homes for sale increased from 396,000 to 404,000, the highest in 25 years. The inventory represents 4.2 months' supply at the August sales rate, down from 4.4 months in July. The median price of a new home sold in August fell from $214,400 to $208,900, the lowest in eight months. The median price has increased 9.7 percent in the past year
