Mish, you need to educate yourself. You confuse spyware programs and cookies. Programs are harmful, cookies are not. Most spyware detection programs when they do search do a bad job when they lump together these two categories.
If you have set IE security setting high then it were your deliberate actions if your caught a real spyware program. Kids usually the best in infecting computers with viruses and spyware.
