Rio Tinto <RIO.AX> has indicated that its iron ore customers
could be looking at another large price increase for shipments
from its Pilbara mine in 2005-06, with chief executive, Leigh
Clifford, yesterday stating that the 'iron ore price is going up'
due to strong Chinese demand. Analysts believe Mr Clifford's
statement means price rises that at least match this year's 18.6
per cent rise will be sought in upcoming price negotiations. Mr
Clifford said there was 'no doubt' that China's 'forward momentum
will continue' and that the effects on the iron ore sector 'will
be dramatic.
