Government spending can be done responsibly. In fact private health insurers have higher overhead costs than Medicare per capita. Privatization of the nations utilities has led to a raping of the once public system for private profits. Privatization is not always the way to go. I'd like to see the cost to the US for the services that Haliburton charges on a per soldier basis compared to the way it was when I served. It's got to be higher today. We used to peel the god damned potatoes...we didn't need private contractors serving mess.

In no way have I suggested that free money be given to anyone. What I said is that we need to stimulate the economy through directed spending. The kind of spending I'm talking about is in improving our infrastructure. This kind of spending creates efficiencies in transportation of goods, services, utlities, oil and gas. We should be moving towards ending our dependency on foreign oil. We should be improving our intelligence gathering and strengthening our military. All of these items will promote a stronger economy and a stronger America. By spending on these items the economy will be stimulated and jobs will be created.

Flat tax is not the answer. A truly progressive tax structure is needed. Right now we don't have that...many wealthy people are paying little or no taxes through the use of loopholes and accounting tricks.

I think that we need to enforce the way our government does business in the same fashion as the SEC oversees the reporting and business of America's corporations. Each department in each branch of government should provide a complete accounting, whereby their performance can be evaluated. When they perform badly, we the people can asses that and vote them out.
