In the war on crime, there are people who are going to be criminals no matter what. Exactly. and you know what? There is NO way to keep those on that track from killing innocent people, ie cops, bystanders, victims, etc. So the Iraqis AND out troops remain in dangere. Our troops know this, down to the lowest rank. But, we must also attack the roots of crime: poverty, lack of education, drugs, injustice, and hopelessness. If we don't, then it doesn't matter how many criminals we lock up and/or fry, there will be more to take their place. Right on again. Which is exactly what a good toehold in the Middle East will do..Look at all the good already happening in Afghanistan AND Iraq..Perfection? NO...but there are, according to reports, 10 million people in Afghanistan registered to vote in the elections...and a full 40% of those are WOMEN!!!! Imagine that...women in Afghanstan voting.....cool. and in Iraq...NOT perfect, far from it..but do you think that the people of other nations (especially Iran) are not watching as kids go to schools, people are not disappearing in the middle of the night headed either for a mass grave or one of Saddams jails, hospitals are stocked and working, Iraqis are signing up day and night to be Guards and Police, the elections will be held in January as scheduled, etc etc etc. I read a report from an overseas source that there was recently a protest IN Tehran against the government..the count on the protesters ranged from 400,000 to 600,000.....imagine that...against the rule of the Mullahs...or whatever they call them there. Freedom works...but IMO, it woks much better when the USA is part of the process.
