If a person exposes their shared folders to the LAN, then the shared folder can become visible to all on the same LAN. Worse, if the router's password is not protected, then the router can be hijacked and passwords changed or hacked.

Even when protected, a wifi lan's security key can still be cracked by anyone with the most basic software tools.
