Are you using dialup, by any chance?

I use dialup at home, so I'm extra-anal about sending the fewest bytes necessary.

This version of the site only sends about 25% as much data over the wires as the old version for the same message. That aspect of the new interface is VERY noticeable on dialup.

That, combined with machines that're so powerful and code that is so tightly tweaked, makes for a pretty zippy experience.
