We have accepted a lot of socialist governments. Sweden had a moderately socialist government for decades. Labor Zionists, who dominated Israel for much of its history, were socialists. India has been a relatively socialist government until the last decade, when it introduced more market reforms. The question has always been the position of the Communist Party, with an ultimately revolutionary agenda. Even then, we have tolerated Communists in various allied governments, so long as they were playing by democratic rules.
