Actually the cowardly thing to have done would have been to continue sending the same signals that emboldened the North Vietnamese Communists, the Soviets, Warlord Aideed, and Bin Laden. Signals such as the USA pulls out when 18 are killed in Somalia. After that Bin Laden proclaimed that his terror war against the US will be easy. As soon as the USA takes a few casualties, they will remove all their troops from Saudia Arabia and lift sanctions against Iraq.
