Iranian FM said yesterday:
"Despite the rising tensions with the United States, Dr. Kharrazi said he believed that the American presidential election could offer an opportunity, no matter who won.
"A president in office for a second term becomes more realistic," he said....""

I dont often agree with the iranians either but if i end up voting for bush it will be with this thought in mind along with "dont change horses in midstream" and stuff regarding: "the learning curve."
Symbolically all along i was looking for the firing of rummy or the replacement of cheney with a more progressive candidate like Giuliani or McCain. But too late for all that. Mike

PS Saw this same Iranian on Wolf Blitzer. It always amazes me why he is never asked if he would sit down with the israelis to hammer out an understanding regarding wmds to reduce the need for nukes and perhaps set some sort of schedule for ultimate israeli nuke free situation in the distant future. For peace to break out in the mideast there has to be at least some cold war/hotline contact between iran and israel, much like US/USSR back in the cold war days. Along with the Turks, these nations are the only true powers in the region and can set the tone for an ultimate peaceful settlement. Although it is unlikely this iranian regime will ever go down this road, one never knows and the red phone should be installed. Mike

My problem is that I do not think Blair has said anything that Bush has not said, so I do not know what you (or the NYT) want........

Do you really believe that there are fewer terrorists plotting against America today than there were before you began the invasion of Iraq?

Your version of Christianity supports and blesses preventive war. What relation is this to the Christianity preached by the pope and by mainstream Protestants who oppose preventive war?

Since you obviously did not anticipate the troubles in Iraq, what do you plan to do to the incompetent advisers who misled you and are responsible for the deaths of more than 1,000 American G.I.'s and 20,000 Iraqi civilians? Or do you not see an accountability problem? President John F. Kennedy fired the people who led him into the Bay of Pigs. Why do you not do likewise?
