In the case of Iraq listening to the "Old Europe" might have been a good idea. France and Germany asked that the rush to war be delayed while inspectors continued their work. Instead, Bush belittled the competence of the inspectors and just about anyone else who opposed immediate war. Now, 18 months later, where are the WMD? Who was right?

But we don't speak of that... Saddam had to go for reasons other than WMD. Talk about a flip-flop.

With respect to Sudan... a similar genocide situation existed in the Balkans during the Clinton administration. Clinton waged a bombing campaign to oust Milosovic and then sent in US troops as part of a multi-national peacekeeping force - actions for which he was roundly criticized by Bush during the 2000 campaign.

Unfortunately, after Iraq, we have insufficient credibility to put together a Sudan peacekeeping force and insufficient resources to go it alone.

By the way, you are incorrect when you say Kerry wants "US forces under UN control". If you have any proof to that claim I'd love to see it.

....get rid of the old bridges to the old despots of the world. Leaders like chirac need to be by-passed and NEW BRIDGES built with leaders of the world who do NOT support the enemies of the civilized world.
