Japan August salaried household spending falls 0.2 pct year-on-year

TOKYO (AFX) - Salaried household spending in August fell a real 0.2 pct year-on-year, the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications said. That compares with the average forecast of a 0.2 pct increase in a Nihon Keizai Shimbun survey of 21 research institutions. The forecasts ranged from a decline of 0.2 pct to a rise of 3.0 pct

Spending by households headed by salaried workers, which accounts for about 60 pct of total household spending in Japan, rose by a real 2.9 pct in July from the previous month

Overall income of salaried worker-headed households was unchanged year-on-year. Incomes of household heads increased 1.9 pct and disposable income fell by 1.2 pct, the ministry said

The propensity to spend rose to 75.4 pct from 71.0 pct the previous month, the ministry said
