It would have been easy for him to explain that Afghanistan was a direct result of 9/11, and Iraq is a result of the change in paradigm caused by 9/11.

It wouldn't have been easy for him unless he had a teleprompter.

That argument doesn't make rational sense and requires the correct slogans and sound bytes to be made at all. There were many countries who were a bigger threat than Iraq, they just didn't have oil.

I have to agree Ten. Bush had many opportunities to take Kerry down and instead reverted to his overall (repetative) message. I think he went back to it too often and should have hung Kerry on facts/his previous statements more.

Bush did not articulate properly how Iraq fits into the war on terror and he let Kerry portray the simplistic "Osama attacked us, not Saddam". It would have been easy for him to explain that Afghanistan was a direct result of 9/11, and Iraq is a result of the change in paradigm caused by 9/11. He didn't do that.

There is nothing simplistic about the notion that Osama attacked us, not Saddam. In fact, it requires some complexity to recognize that Saddam Hussein does not equal Osama. And it requires further complexity to understand that the Chechen terrorists and Hamas, although Muslim, do not equal al Qa'ida.

If we can't distinguish between these groups, we will encourage them to join forces against us and make what is a difficult fight just that much harder.

If the 2nd Iraq war was a result of a change in paradigm caused by 9/11, why did it make more sense to invade Iraq, change the regime, and install a democratic society there than in Saudi Arabia? Answer that one please.
