I think comparisons to 1980 are appropriate.

In 1980 Reagan was the candidate unknown to the general population. He had been portrayed as a warmongering doddering old man.

In the debates he came across as strong, confident and fully capable.

I think tonight's debate could do the same for Kerry. Rather than a vacillating long winded buffoon he came off as a succinct and presidential candidate.

Excellent night for Kerry.
