but this is a chat site not a research tool

Well, in discussion many things come to light.
And how about if a couple other people are discussing ABC, a stock that I have an interest in and I don't know either of the others in the discussion
So I'm not around while they are postin
But I do a search and viola, I get to read said discussion.

Anything here related to reserach is easily available elsewhere.

Perhaps, assuming you know where to look.
And if you know of every site that every member visits and have them at your finger tips, and have the time to visit them daily, than you clearly have too much time on your hands<g>

Finally, to disagree one more time about info being available elsewhere, well, you're forgetting about the most important factor in short term trading/investing: public sentiment.
While most here are in the "above average" category when it comes to market savvy, there is still a considerable amount of advantage available to those who know how to use the information contained within these cyber walls.

But, the bottom line is, we all visit SI for our own varied reasons. You come to chat and wahooo-Wohaaa your favorite stock with your cronies. Or discuss the future of a corp after a secondary or a split, or what ever.
And I come here to read your posts and sometimes use that information as part of my investing/trading tools, if I'm interested
