He may have overstated the extent of atrocities, but he was NOT making them up.

No, like CBS and the forged documents, Kerry was only "duped" by his eagerness for it to be true. He knew, or should have known had he not turned a blind eye, that much of the "winter soldier" testimony that he drew his from was complete fabrications. It has been documented that several of the so-called winter soldiers were not who they claimed to be when they testified - they were protesters posing as soldiers. Their stories were as fake as they were. Just as surely as Dan Rather knew the documents were fake and his story a lie, Kerry surely knew his testimony was a lie. And he passed on that lie because it was politically expedient to do so - it served his purpose at the time. What's more, he won't repudiate it to this day.

No one has said that there weren't atrocities. That isn't even the point. Unfortunately, atrocities are committed in every war, from the beginning of mankind.

However:

Kerry slandered and libelled people who had nothing to do with the atrocities that he exaggerated and generalized about.

Kerry endangered our POW's and others by providing credible evidentiary support, from a former US Naval officer, to support the North's accusations that all of our POW's were war criminals, whether they were or not, and should be treated as such. They were treated like animals.

Kerry demoralized our troops.

Kerry demoralized our former troops who came home to face hostility instead of a homecoming.

History does repeat itself, because Kerry seems intent on doing the same thing again, 30+ years later.

Kerry is despicable.
