China EMS, ODM Markets to Grow to $45.5B in 2008, iSuppli Says
Online staff -- Electronic News, 10/1/2004

Due to production capacity continuing to migrate to China the electronic manufacturing service (EMS) and original design manufacturing (ODM) markets there are expected to grow at more than 20 percent on a compound annual rate, according to El Segundo, Calif.’s iSuppli Corp.

EMS revenue in China is predicted to reach $45.5 billion in 2008, up 21 percent from $17.7 billion in 2003, while ODM revenue is expected to grow to $108 billion in 2008, compared to $39.6 billion in 2003, for a CAGR of 22 percent.

Growth factors for China’s EMS market include the global market for electronic systems undergoing a robust expansion, expected to continue every year through at least 2008; OEMs continuing to outsource production to benefit from increased focus on core competencies and from flexible use of assets; and international and Taiwanese EMS and ODM companies continuing to increase manufacturing capacity in China over the next five years.

Further, with the manufacturing of more products transferred to facilities in China by international and Taiwanese EMS companies, local Chinese EMS companies are expected to speed their moves to enhance manufacturing capabilities and expand facilities to attract more overseas customers, iSuppli reported.
