Peter-- 4 months and 12 days in country. THREE months in country after training there. He certainly saw more stuff, was more important, did more as a FNG than some SF that spent 3 12 - 13 month tours there. He received more medals in that time frame than Audy Murphy in WWII could have dreamed of.

Vietnam was wrong, wrong, wrong. And so are you.

Hibbard is lying. Not just about Kerry, but their rules of engagement. Hibbard is covering up the truth. Those free-fire zone rules were to fire at anything that moved and call in air-strikes if you're nervous. They also used carpet-bombing, agent orange deforestation, napalm and would destroy entire villages if anyone from within took a shot at them.

Steve Gardner machine-gunned the family because he thought that's what he was supposed to do. Kerry disagreed, but apparently did not pursue court martial proceedings. He knew the real villain was the war itself.

As Kerry made clear, the sins of Nam were not the soldiers fault, they were the fault of the top brass and Pentagon.

Liars like Hibbard who didn't take responsibility. While the very top guy McNamara has already confessed and apologized to the world in his film "The Fog Of War".

In that film he asks "Why did we need to blow everything to kingdom come? He admits Nakasaki wasn't even necessary. Japan was already beaten. He admits we dropped more bombs on little Vietnam that in all of WWII. Talk about baby-killers, those bombs and napalm and agent orange, they were the real killers. He admits that during his tenure, the Pentagon had over-killed hundreds of thousands of people just to try out and use it's new generations of WMD's. Yes, WMD's. In the hands of super extremist rightwing hawks like Curtis Lemay.

When you drop napalm on a village or Agent Orange on 1000 year old forests and rice paddies or strings of 500 pound bombs on entire general populated areas (in those days we had no eyes in the sky so there was tons of collateral damage) it's a WMD, and it's called extermination. In a just war, that's OK, but Vietnam was a very unjust war. Vietnam never attacked or. Never even threatened us. It was just a third world civil war.

McNamara admits we went way too far, and admits also Vietnam was a complete and utter mistake based on lies to ourselves and to the world. The White Houses and Pentagon completely misjudged the enemy, were mistaken that they battling communism, got it wrong why we were there and what the hell we were fighting for.

In the end we were killing the very people we had been claiming to liberate. Same as in Iraq more and more. All this explains why Kerry was and is right, right, right.
