<the professional soldier doesn't question the politics. They know their mission is an extension of politics. They do what they were trained to do when the politicians allow them to do their jobs.>

Then if you respect the professional soldier, as it appears you do, then it stands to reason that you should equally respect all soldiers, regardless of nationality or political system. Logically, you must respect an SS officer of Nazi Germany equally as well as a Captain in the 101st Airborne - both are professionals doing their job as directed. If you see a difference between these soldiers, perhaps you do make a distinction based on politics.

A second point is methodology. If the purpose of war is to defeat the enemy, do you allow the end to justify the means? If the villigers of Lidice must die to stop insurgent attacks against the Nazis, should not the inhabitants of Sadr City (Baghdad) equally suffer so that US soldiers are not put at risk ? If civilians must suffer so the soldiers can play their deadly games, is that just ? Oh, but of course, it is war, and in war all is fair. If you really believe this, then you cannot criticize the methods of terrorists, because, after all, it is war.

P.S. On an on-topic point, I appreciate your patience in explaining TA to respondents on the BDBBR thread. Although I don't use TA myself, I do trade against many who do, and knowing the language of the competition is often useful.
