If that's what your high school teacher is telling you, I suggest you transfer to a better school.

You wrote, "Don't think that while you are riding a 300% increase in some asset that you are not hurting someone else." That is a broad generality that does not hold for most asset classes.

Explain to me how 300% appreciation in the value of "some asset" I own, let's say a debt or equity instument (you did say "some asset", not specifically an option or future with a counterparty taking the other side of the contract), directly impacts anyone else.

I'm not defending Ssoros, mind you (though I have seen no basis for accusing him of doing anything illegal or immoral), just correcting an all to widely held misconception.
