High Court to Put Nader on Ballot Friday, Oct. 1, 2004 MADISON, Wis. -- The state Supreme Court decided Thursday to put independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader back on the Wisconsin ballot. The Democratic Party of Wisconsin sued to knock Nader off the ballot, arguing that the longtime consumer activist had failed to meet the minimal standards required to be listed as a presidential candidate. But the court ruled unanimously that Nader had substantially complied with the state's requirements for ballot access and should be on the ballot. The ruling overturned a circuit judge's decision earlier this week that temporarily knocked him off. The court's decision could have huge implications for the presidential race in Wisconsin, one of about a dozen states that could decide the Nov. 2 election. Some Democrats still blame Nader's candidacy in 2000 for helping George W. Bush win the presidency and fear he could again siphon votes away from their nominee, John Kerry. © 2000 The Associated Press
