The US won Vietnam in the battlefield but lost it at home thanks to people like John Kerry who used the compelling combination of his Ivy League background and his war medals to break the will of the US public just before the very unpopular military draft ended in 1973. The sad thing is that the same generation who lost Vietnam at home are determined to do it again in Iraq no matter what the costs. Is it any wonder that the Democrats have lost the House and the Senate in rapid succession during the last 10 years? How can you doubt that John Kerry is doomed when a vote against John Kerry is a vote against the deep defeatism that he has stood for his entire life?
